Bringing home your heart, and why the “perfect” photo starts with a deep breath.
I know exactly how it feels. You are navigating those first few weeks in a bit of a beautiful, sleep-deprived haze here in South East London.
The days seem to melt into each other – from the quiet midnight feeds to the way the light hits the cot in the morning. You want to bottle up every tiny yawn and every curl of those miniature fingers before they change.
But often, the dream of a newborn session feels more like a mountain to climb. Most shoots “fail” in the minds of parents before they even arrive at my door, simply because the pressure to be “perfect” is far too heavy.
The secret to a successful session is letting go.
The biggest mistake I see is parents worrying that their baby won’t “behave” or sleep on cue. Please know that I have seen it all, and nothing your little one does will fluster me.
If the baby is fussy or needs an extra long feed, we stop. We wait. I have all the time in the world for you and your new arrival.
To make things even easier for you, I provide everything. You don’t need to spend hours scrolling for the right outfit or worrying about props.
- A curated wardrobe of soft, neutral knits and wraps.
- Beautiful, timeless props that keep the focus on your baby.
- A warm, calm studio space where you can simply sit back and have a cup of tea.
Safety & Comfort (The most important part)
Your baby’s safety is my absolute priority – it is the foundation of every pose and every transition. I am a specialist in newborn handling, which means I understand the anatomy and comfort levels of a brand new human.
I never force a pose. If a baby isn’t comfortable in a certain position, we move on to something that feels natural for them.
I am fully trained in newborn safety and use professional composite editing for any “complex” poses. This means your baby is always being supported by a hand that is later edited out.
Whether we are in my studio or I am visiting your home in Blackheath or Hither Green, the environment is kept at the perfect temperature to keep them cosy and sleepy.
A Note for Mums
I want to say something directly to you, because I know you might be feeling a little fragile right now. You might be worried about the dark circles under your eyes or feeling like you aren’t “camera ready.”
Please don’t wait until you feel “perfect” to be in these photos. Your baby won’t look back at these images and see a tired mum – they will see the woman who was their entire world.
I know how to use soft, flattering light to make you look as radiant as you feel when you look at your child. You are doing an incredible job, and you deserve to be in the frame too.
If your toddler decides to run circles around us or have a meltdown, don’t worry, I’ve got you. We will find the magic in the chaos together.
