Capturing those first fleeting days from your cozy corner of South East London
I know those first few weeks are a beautiful, exhausting blur. Between the midnight feeds and the quiet snuggles, you just want to freeze time before those tiny toes grow another millimetre.
It is so tempting to grab your phone and snap away, but sometimes the results don’t quite match the magic you feel in your heart. Don’t worry, I have been there too, and I am here to help you bridge that gap.
Whether you are here in Greenwich or just down the road in Blackheath, I want your memories to look as beautiful as they feel.
The secret to professional looking memories
The biggest difference between an amateur snap and a professional portrait often comes down to light. Avoid using your phone’s flash or the bright overhead lights in your living room, as these can create harsh shadows on baby’s delicate skin.
Instead, find a large window – perhaps one overlooking your garden in Hither Green – and turn off all the indoor lights. Position your baby so the soft, natural light flows from the top of their head down their body.
Keep things simple and avoid busy patterns or “statement” outfits that might date quickly. I always tell my clients that less is more when it comes to newborn styling.
In my studio, I provide a curated wardrobe of neutral knits and soft organic muslins so you don’t have to worry about a thing. This keeps the focus exactly where it should be – on your baby’s sleepy yawns and peach-fuzz skin.
Safety & Comfort (Your baby is in safe hands)
When you see those perfectly curled-up poses online, please remember that many are “composite” images made of two photos joined together. I have spent years training in newborn safety to ensure your little one is never at risk.
Never force a baby into a pose, and always have a spotter within arm’s reach. Your baby’s comfort and safety are far more important than any photograph.
In my sessions, I let the baby take the lead. If they need a feed, a cuddle, or a nappy change, we stop. There is no rush and no stress.
I handle the “heavy lifting” of the session – the soothing, the posing, and the settling – so you can sit back with a cup of tea and simply be.
A Note for Mums
I see you, Mama. I know you might feel tired, and you might be tempted to stay behind the camera rather than in front of it.
Please don’t wait until you “lose the baby weight” or feel perfectly rested to be in the frame. Your baby won’t look back at these photos and see your tired eyes; they will see the deep, unconditional love in your gaze.
You are doing an incredible job, and you deserve to have these memories with your child. I promise to guide you into the most flattering angles so you feel as beautiful as you truly are.
