Why the first fortnight is the sweet spot for capturing those fleeting, sleepy early days.
Oh, those first few days at home.
The world outside your Greenwich window keeps spinning, but inside, time has completely stood still.
You are utterly exhausted, hopelessly in love, and surviving on tiny snatches of sleep.
I know how overwhelming this chapter feels, my friend.
But in the middle of this beautiful, blurry bubble, your tiny baby is already changing.
Those curled-up legs, the velvet-soft skin, and that sweet newborn scent fade faster than we ever want to admit.
The magic of the first twelve days
As a specialist newborn photographer, I am often asked when the absolute best time is for a photo session.
While I will never turn a three-week-old baby away, the sweet spot is actually between five and twelve days new.
During these first two weeks, babies still remember being curled up inside your tummy.
Here is why those first twelve days are so magical for your session:
- They are in a deep, peaceful sleep for most of the day.
- They still naturally curl into those adorable womb-like poses.
- We can avoid the onset of baby acne or colic, which often starts around week three.
By week three, your little one starts to wake up to the world.
They stretch out their long limbs, their sleep becomes lighter, and they become much more sensitive to being moved.
That is why we want to capture them early.
To make things as easy as possible for you, my South East London studio is fully stocked with everything we need.
You do not need to worry about buying outfits or props.
I provide a curation of soft, neutral wraps and delicate blankets, keeping the focus entirely on your beautiful baby.
Safety, comfort, and a warm cup of tea
Your baby’s safety is my absolute, non-negotiable priority.
I have spent years training with top medical and anatomical experts to understand newborn physiology.
Every pose is gentle, natural, and entirely baby-led.
If a baby is fussy or does not want to be in a certain position, we simply move on.
We will never, ever force a pose, and many of my signature sleepy shots are actually created using safe composite images in editing.
When you arrive at my studio near Blackheath, your only job is to sit back, relax, and let me cuddle your baby.
I have seen every level of baby crying and toddler tantrum, and I promise you, nothing phases me.
We take all the time we need for feeding, winding, and comforting.
A gentle note for new mums
I know you might not be feeling like your usual self right now.
Your body has just done something miraculous, and you might feel hesitant about stepping in front of the camera.
Please, do not wait until you have lost the baby weight, or until you feel perfect.
Your baby will never look back at these photos and care about your tired eyes or your soft postpartum belly.
They will only see how deeply they were loved from the very beginning.
I know how to style and angle you to make you feel beautiful, protected, and comfortable.
Let me take care of you, just for a morning.
