Stop Ruining Your Newborn Photos With This One Mistake

Take a deep breath, mama – I’ve got you

I know how exhausted you are right now. You are running on lukewarm tea, broken sleep, and an overwhelming love that completely takes your breath away.

Those tiny toes, the soft milk spots on their nose, and those sleepy little yawns are already changing by the day. It is completely natural to want to freeze this fleeting season before it slips through your fingers.

In the rush to capture every detail, there is one common mistake that so often ruins the magic of newborn photos: over-complicating the session with fussy, stiff outfits and endless props.

Why simple is always sweeter

It is so tempting to browse online late at night and buy tiny tailored shirts, scratchy frilly dresses, or novelty costumes. But newborns are so beautifully curled and delicate, and stiff fabrics almost always swallow them whole.

When an outfit does not fit like a glove, it bunches up around baby’s chin, hides their sweet features, and usually leaves them feeling irritable and unsettled. The baby should always be the focus of the photograph, not the clothes.

Simple textures, soft organic knits, and bare sleepy skin let your baby’s true tiny size shine.

To take the pressure off your shoulders, my Greenwich studio is already filled with handpicked wraps, delicate bonnets, and neutral blankets. You do not need to spend hours shopping or worrying about what will look right – I provide everything you need so you can just show up and breathe.

Safety & Comfort (Critical Section)

Your baby’s comfort and physical safety will always matter more than any photograph. As a trained newborn specialist, I never rush a little one or force them into rigid shapes.

Many of those sleepy, curled-up images you see online are actually composite images created from multiple frames for safety, where gentle hands never leave the baby. Every pose in my studio is completely baby-led, natural, and supported.

If your baby is fussy, needs an extra feed, or simply wants a long cuddle, the clock does not tick against you. I keep the studio warm, gentle, and peaceful so you can sit back on the sofa, put your feet up, and let me take care of the soothing.

A Note for Mums

Please do not hide behind the camera because you feel tired, puffy, or unready.

You do not need to lose the baby weight, have perfect skin, or fit into your pre-pregnancy jeans to be in these photographs. Years from now, your child will not care about any of those things.

They will only see the gentle way you looked at them when they were small enough to fit across your chest.
